If you live in a rented villa or apartment, your landlord will have the building insured against fire and other natural damages. However, this protection does not extend to your personal belongings. To protect your belongings, like electronics and furniture, from fire or water damage and other dangers, you’ll need to get your own home insurance.
You’re not *required* to get home insurance, but we really recommend it. Last year, we conducted a study and found that, if your one-bedroom flat was ruined due to some disaster, it’d cost at least AED 28,000 to re-furnish. Or, to put it another way, the equivalent of 127 years’ worth of home insurance. Given those numbers, we think it’s an investment worth making!
