Shift your shopping from high end markets to regular less expensive marts like you can get 80% of your regular weekly shopping items at any Carrefour at a considerably lower price than Waitrose. .Also, consider shifting your fruit and vegetable shopping to places like Union Co-Op in Dubai, Sharjah Co-Op in Sharjah and Ajman Al Manama ,LuLu hypermarket. Buy your fish from the fish markets in Dubai and Sharjah ports. Its cheap and fresh from the boat.

Health and fitness expenses is one of the biggest challenges in Dubai. Sitting behind the screen and wheels for long call for sweating it out. Gym memberships are extremely expensive and difficult to commit if you work odd hours. An alternative option is free and you’ll realize its benefits:

1 – Public Parks: A brilliant alternative that I’d argue has slightly more benefits than an in-door gym. The fresh air, well-kempt trees, and open air help ease out stress whilst you’re running and jogging. I’ve seen people double up the bench as gym tools for push-ups and dips. Indoor gyms can get noisy and crammed up.

2 – Empty parking lots: If there is no public park in vicinity, look for a large parking lot with enough gaps for a jog or run. But you’ll have to time yourself for late-nights or early morning when there’s little activity of cars around.

Note: Gym membership isn’t a bad idea, but refrain from using it as a social calling card. Don’t join in because your friends have, join because your body needs it and only if you can afford that price tag. Don’t build your body at the expense of mind.

I’ve recently saved 25,000 AED by moving to a one bedroom apartment from a two bed. I realised that I didn’t really need a two bed, and that if I have any visitors who want to stay, it’d actually be cheaper for me to put them up in a hotel (which I won’t). The added benefit of this is that I won’t have people staying with me now! :)

          1.Basic Beverages

Stick to basic beverages like tea and coffee. Fancy juices and carbonated beverages are slight deviations from your basic drinks.

          2.Home Lunch

Nothing is better than home lunch. In UAE, there are a lot of options to eat out and once your start eating out, it becomes an addiction.

           3.Speed Tickets

Don’t waste your money on speeding fines.

          4.Rents / Flat

If you are single, you can opt for a studio flat thus saving a lot on rents. Families with kids need minimum one bed room flat.

Opt for credit cards which offer great discounts on movie tickets.

Going to a gym can be costly in UAE. You can substitute it with jogging in a park or doing ground exercises at home

Last but not the least prepare a budget every month and stick to it. Budgeting is a great way to make a frugal living. With a budget on hand, you will know exactly how much to spend and where. This way you can avoid unnecessary purchases.
