If you’ve got hold of one of the new Saudi banknotes, you may want to know that cash machines across the Kingdom are reportedly rejecting them.
The new banknotes were brought in to mark the era of King Salman, with the Saudi central bank launching them to the public towards the end of 2016. However, barely two weeks after the launch, it has been reported that ATM machines are not distributing or accepting deposits of the new notes.
According to reports, the new notes’ size and security marks have confounded the ATM machines, which were apparently not updated to recognise the new banknotes.
The Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA) says that the new notes’ features make them less susceptible to forgery. However, it is not known when the country’s ATMs will be updated to recognise the new notes.
