If you answered yes to both those questions, you should know that the Directorate General of Traffic has installed new cameras on roads that can detect drivers who use their phones behind the wheel.
Not only that, the new cameras can detect whether drivers and passengers are wearing seatbelts.
If you’re caught, you’ll have to pay a fine of SAR 150 for the first time you offend, and that could increase to SAR 300 if you continue to flout the rules. You could even be detained for 24 hours under new rules.

The Saudi Gazette said that a study by King Abdullah Medical Research Center in Riyadh last year showed that almost 14% of drivers use mobile phones while behind the wheel.
And studies have found that this violation is one of the most common causes of accidents.
