4 great credit cards to use this DSF

UAE credit cards

We may have just come out of the festive period, but that doesn’t mean there’s a reason to stop celebrating. After all, now it’s time to indulge in the delights of Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF), which has been running since December 26.

Any long-time resident of Dubai will tell you for free that DSF is the best time of the year to nab great shopping deals. Stores use the festival as an opportunity to clear our last year’s unsold stock, meaning shoppers get products they’ve had their eyes on for much better prices. It’s a win-win.

But any really savvy shopper will tell you that you can extract even more value out of DSF by using the right credit cards. Some banks will have special DSF offers on their cards, but even if your bank hasn’t offered you that, you can still get a whole lot of value with select credit cards in the UAE. To help you understand which cards are the most useful when you plan to do a lot of shopping, we’ve rounded up the most suitable credit cards in the UAE for DSF.

Standard Chartered Titanium Credit Card

This one makes the list simply because it offers so many opportunities to earn cashback. For starters, if you’re a new customer, you’ll be eligible for AED 500 cashback as a welcome gift – you’ll just need to spend AED 10,000 on the card within 60 days from your card activation date.

But the cashback offers go much further than that. For example, the card offers up to 10% cashback on supermarket purchases, up to 10% cashback on school fees, and up to 10% cashback on utility payments. What’s more, cardholders will also get 50% off at Vox Cinemas and airport lounge access. Another card benefit for shoppers is the fact that the Titanium card will offer a 15% discount when you shop online at MarkaVIP.

Finally, Standard Chartered recently partnered with Uber, meaning that Titanium card holders can now get 20% cashback on Uber fares in the UAE and across the globe. All you have to do to qualify for the Uber cashback is spend AED 2,000 or more per month. And if you’re busy shopping around during DSF, you should easily be able to qualify for that.

ADIB Cashback Visa Platinum Credit Card

ADIB’s cashback card makes our list because it offers a free grace period of up to 55 days to pay your outstanding balance. That means that, no matter how crazy your shopping gets during DSF, you have 55 days to pay off the credit card’s balance before you get charged with interest.

On top of that, the card will give you 1% flat cashback, anywhere any time. That may not sound like a lot, but if you use the card for most of your purchases (and then pay off the balance at the end of the month), you can earn yourself a whole lot of cashback. Handy during a month that contains DSF, right? And if you’re shopping in areas where cash is king, the card will also let you withdraw 100% of the limit in cash.

And if you need to take a while to pay off those transactions, RAKBANK will give you a low interest rate on outstanding retail purchases. Even so, you’ll get 55 days of interest-free credit, meaning it should be pretty easy to keep the interest payments under control.

The card comes with quite a few other benefits, too. For example, you’ll get 5% cashback on all international transactions, including cash advances and internet transactions. You can also get free supplementary cards, free purchase protection, free travel accident insurance, and free fraud protection insurance from MasterCard.
