Careem has lowered fares and introduced its Economy option in Abu Dhabi, effective this week.
The developer of the popular ride-booking app said it’s been working with Abu Dhabi regulators for more than a year, “to offer more affordable prices for your everyday rides and [we] are very excited to be sharing this news!”
A ride in the new Economy class will cost AED 2.35 per kilometre and the minimum fare will be AED 19. The waiting fare, charged when the car is moving at less than 16km per hour, will be AED 46.
Rides in Careem Kids will cost the same rates per km and for waiting, though the minimum fare will be AED 29.
Rides in MAX class (larger vehicles for up to six people) will cost AED 2.70 per km, with a minimum fare of AED 26.
The upmarket Limo service and Assist, which offers door-to-door wheelchair support, will continue to be available.
A comparison with the Careem service in Dubai shows that the per km and waiting rates will actually be lower for Economy and Kids in Abu Dhabi. That is perhaps offset by the fact that GO, the budget option available in Dubai for the last year, is not available in Abu Dhabi.
