That’s according to the latest HSBC Expat Explorer survey, which recently polled over 27,500 expats from 159 countries. Seventy-two per cent of respondents from Dubai sad that they have more spare cash here than they would have in their home countries.

But apart from the economic benefits of living in Dubai, the survey also found that expats are attracted to the city because of its job prospects and social life. Dubai apparently has the highest level of expat employment in the world, and over one-third (36%) of Dubai expats said they have a better social life than they did before they moved to the city.

That’s compared to 26% of expats in London, 26% of expats in Los Angeles, 27% of expats in San Francisco, and 28% of expats in New York who say the same thing.

“It is not at all surprising to see that Dubai, and the UAE, continue to be the destination of choice for job prospects. Dubai has the second highest expat employment levels in the world, with 92% of expats in employment, according to the survey,” said Marwan Hadi, Head of Retail Banking and Wealth Management, UAE, HSBC.

“Expats have also said that other key reasons for selecting Dubai as their home away from home, is because they enjoy the city’s social life, its fantastic food scene, the cleanliness, safety, and the excellent leisure facilities it offers.”

Indeed, 44% of expats praise Dubai’s great restaurants and food which storms ahead of other hugely popular cities for food such as Hong Kong (35%) and Barcelona (42%). And 76% of expats in Dubai feel safer and more secure than in their home country, which is significantly higher than other cities around the world including London (34%), Sydney (59%) and Vancouver (62%).
