Revealed: The most expensive cities to celebrate NYE in

New Year's Eve Dubai

If you’re wondering where you should be ringing in the New Year, but want to save a few pennies, you might like to know that Dubai is officially the most expensive city in the world for New Year’s Eve celebrations.

If you’re a long-time Dubai resident, this probably doesn’t surprise you. Still, according to a new report from currency exchange firm Travelex, the average cost per person to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Dubai is AED 2,240.

Travelex said that it drew on a range of sources to arrive at the number, which includes the price of a set meal for one, a bottle of bubbly, club entry and a pint.

The company said that Dubai’s new average cost had risen from last year’s number of AED 2,015 per person. What’s more, the new figure makes Dubai noticeably more expensive than the runner-up, New York, which this year is expected to cost New Year’s Eve revellers AED 1,870 per person.

The third most expensive destination was London, which Travelex said would cost an average of AED 1,435 per person on New Year’s Eve, while Paris came fourth with an average cost of AED 1,170 per person.

Travelex surveyed seven cities in total, with the cheapest being Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, which is expected to cost New Year party-goers AED 725 per person.
