If you’ve got a Samsung phone in the UAE, and you’re signed up to Samsung Pay, a big UAE bank just made life a little easier for you.
RAKBANK announced last week that it has introduced Samsung Pay capabilities for its ATMs. This essentially means that, if you use Samsung Pay, you can take cash out of a RAKBANK ATM without needing a credit or debit card. All you’ll need is your Samsung phone to take cash out.
Now, not all of RAKBANK’s ATMs have Samsung Pay capabilities; the bank is initially rolling the new service out in high-footfall areas. ATMs at Dragont Mart 2, Wafi Mall and City Centre Me’aisem are among the first to get Samsung Pay. However, RAKBANK added that most of the ATMs in its network will eventually get the service.
The bank also said that it’s the first bank in the Middle East to bring a cardless solution like Samsung Pay to ATMs.
“Staying true to our prominent position as an innovative and dynamic player, we now extend our Samsung Pay solution to ATMs and create an end-to-end contactless process for our customers,” said Peter England, CEO of RAKBANK.
Unfortunately, Samsung Pay isn’t available on every Samsung smartphone in the UAE, but the selection isn’t bad. You can get it if you’re using a Galaxy A series from 2016 or 2017, a Galaxy Note 5 or newer, or any variant of the Galaxy S7 or newer. If you’re on a Galaxy S6, the only one that comes with Samsung Pay in the UAE is the Galaxy S6 Edge+.
And for all you iPhone users – sorry, we haven’t heard when Apple Pay is set for launch in the Middle East. We’ll naturally let you know as soon as we do.I'll stick with credit cards!
