Travelling from UAE to UK? Watch out for delays

Heathrow delays

Travelling from the UAE to the UK this festive season? You may want to keep abreast of the news surrounding a proposed 48-hour strike by UK airport workers.

The proposed strike is scheduled for 23 and 24 December, and may see 1,500 check-in staff, baggage handlers and cargo crew stop working. They’re members of the Unite trade union and work for the UK airport services company Swissport.

Pretty much all of the UK’s airports are expected to be affected, meaning that, if you’re travelling to the UK during those dates, you may need to make alternative arrangements, or simply be prepared for delays.

UAE airlines Etihad and Emirates told Arabian Business that they were monitoring the situation.

But if your flights are already booked, you could offer yourself some protection in the form of travel insurance, which covers you for things like airport delays, missed flights and lost baggage.
