It’s the school holidays again. And although you may not want to admit it, every parent dreads it. No matter how much you plan, there is always going to be a chance of your children whinging that what you’re doing isn’t fun enough.

However, don’t think that, to entertain your children, you need to spend money every day. Instead, there are plenty of things to do in the UAE for little or no money at all. So, if you’re staying in the UAE for the holidays, here are some ideas on how to make the school holidays fly by.

Green Planet

One of the newest attractions in the UAE, Green Planet allows children and adults to venture into the rainforest and experience over 3,000 species of plants and animals. Guests can hold a variety of creepy crawlies and explore the four levels of the oldest ecosystem. It’s probably best to pre-book tickets – just because it’s the school holidays. Adult admission is AED 95 and children above three are AED 70. However, if you check out this Cobone deal then you’ll be able to get one-day admission for AED 39 per child and AED 55 per adult.

Feeding Turtles

Have a unique experience at Jumeriah hotel Mina A’Salam. The Turtle Rehabilitation project runs in collaboration with the Emirates Wildlife Protection Office. Children and adults learn all about the rehabilitation and rescue of sick turtles while also understanding the threats facing marine life today. And if you get there on Wednesdays at 11am then you get the chance to feed them. So how much will it set you back to have this wonderful experience? Nothing – it’s completely free!

Camping

Make the most of the good weather and take the family off to the desert. Head out for just a day or stay the night – a good disposable barbecue and a few burgers won’t go amiss, either. Just remember to clean up afterwards. Bring plenty of bat-and-ball games for everyone to play, and spend a fun-filled day in the sun and leave your purse behind.

Mini Golf

For something a little bit different, why not take your kid down to Wafi Mall for Tee & Putt, glow in the dark Mini Golf? The funky-coloured glow in the dark set-up mimics space exploration and features various mechanical obstacles, like loop-the-loop, high-speed jumps and some tricky putts. Usually tickets for individuals are AED 75, but if you check Groupon, you can currently get a discount for two people at AED 74.

Iceland Waterpark

Choose a lesser-known waterpark to try and avoid the holiday queues. Located a 45-minute car ride away from Dubai, Iceland still has all the water slides you need to keep the family entertained all day – from whirled water chutes, through themed areas, to a wave pool. Check out this Groupon deal to save up to 30% on tickets. That’s AED 119 for an adult, or AED 79 for a child.
