Last year, Porsche updated both the Cayman and the Boxster, putting them together under one product line. Now, both cars are called the 718. The hard-top one is the Cayman, and the soft-top is the Cayman.<\/p>\n
That’s all fine, but the major update to the cars came under the bonnet. Out went the sonorous flat-six engine that had become a defining characteristic of both cars. And in came a 2.0-litre, turbo-charged four-cylinder.<\/p>\n
Sacrilege? Perhaps. But to quell any doubts, Porsche upped the power – the standard 718 Cayman now has 300 bhp, and does the 0-100 km\/h dash in 4.7 seconds. It’ll also go on to a top speed of 275 km\/h.<\/p>\n
That means the new 718 Cayman is quicker than before. And it’s more economical and less damaging to the environment. But has the fact that there’s now a four-cylinder under the bonnet taken anything away from the Cayman?<\/p>\n
