If you\u2019re a follower of classic car news, you\u2019ll have noticed that Jaguar<\/a> last year unveiled an electric E-Type concept car called the E-Type Zero.<\/p>\n

Essentially, the E-Type Zero was a normal-looking Jaguar<\/a> E-Type, but instead of being powered by an internal combustion engine, it had a 40 kWh battery pack under the bonnet.<\/p>\n

And now, Jaguar\u2019s announced that the electric E-Type is going into production. Jaguar Classic wants to combine its \u201crestoration expertise with cutting-edge technology from the Jaguar I-Pace\u201d SUV. The electric E-Types will be restored and converted to electric power at the same Classic Works facility where E-Type Reborn restorations take place.<\/p>\n

And if you\u2019ve already got an E-Type, you\u2019ll be offered an EV conversion. A process which, Jaguar says, will be reversible for people who want to preserve the authenticity of their E-Types.<\/p>\n

\u201cFuture-proofing the enjoyment of classic car ownership is a major stepping stone for Jaguar Classic,\u201d said Tim Hannig, Jaguar Land Rover Classic Director.<\/p>\n

Indeed, and the electric E-Type should be better to drive than the original. It\u2019ll be lighter, for one thing. And much faster. Last year, Jaguar said that the E-Type Zero had nearly 300 bhp \u2013 good for 0-100 km\/h in 5.5 seconds and an all-electric range of 275 km. It also featured a fancy infotainment screen, which will be made available as an option \u2013 even though it\u2019s not really in keeping with the car\u2019s classic style.<\/p>\n

Anyway, proper technical specs for the production electric E-Type haven\u2019t been released yet. Nor has the price. At the moment, Jaguar is looking at how much interest there is for the E-Type Zero, and taking things from there.<\/p>\n

But given how pricey some of the other stuff from Jaguar Land Rover Classic<\/a> is, we\u2019d expect that the electric E-Type will be incredibly expensive.<\/p>\n
