The price increase comes off the back of modest increases in May, as the global oil price has shot up to hover around the $75-a-barrel mark.

As a result, most fuel types will be around 6% more expensive in June than they were in May.

For example, the price for Super 98 is up 5.6% to AED 2.63 per litre, while Special 95 is up 5.9% to AED 2.51 per litre. In May, diesel was going for AED 2.56 per litre, but in June it’ll be 5.8% more expensive at AED 2.71 per litre.

The new fuel prices could stretch the finances of UAE residents already worried about their outgoings. The last yallacompare Consumer Confidence Tracker found that 43% of UAE residents are less confident about their financial health than they were last year. Increased fuel prices may very exacerbate this lack of confidence.

There is respite, however, in the fact that rental rates have been coming down across the UAE.
