This is a picture of the two-millionth Fiat 500 rolling off the production line at the company’s Tychy Plant in Poland.
Yep, since it was re-launched in 2007, Fiat has built two-million 500s. Among those have been 30 special editions, including performance versions in the Abarth 500. It’s been sold in over 100 countries worldwide, and is the top seller in nine.
Not bad for an 11-year-old car that’s remained largely unchanged since it was first launched.
The two-millionth model pictured here is a Fiat 500C – the convertible one. It’s powered by a TwinAir 85 bhp engine that actually wasn’t available on the launch model, and rides on 16-inch rims. Inside, there’s an infotainment system as standard, but other than that, it’s largely the same as any Fiat 500 would have been in 2007. Its new home will be in Italy.
Certainly, there’s something to be said about the allure of the 500. It’s the only Fiat passenger car officially available in the UAE (though we did just see the launch of Abarth in the country, too). And though it isn’t really well suited to the vast highways of the UAE (trust me, I own one), its peppy character and cute looks make it a pretty desirable car.
Anyway, there seems to be plenty of life left in the Fiat 500, even after 11 years. The plant in Poland is building over 200,000 Fiat 500s a year. And, no doubt, there’ll be plenty more special editions that come along, too.
