In the latest ‘traditional carmakers are going electric’ news, Infiniti last week announced that it’s developing an all-new electrified vehicle platform influenced by its Q Inspiration concept car.
The platform will apparently spawn five new vehicles which will be produced in China. The first of these cars will be an “electrified vehicle”. We’re assuming it’ll be a saloon that doesn’t look too different from that Q Inspiration concept, given that the brand made so much of the design of the concept when announcing its electric plans.
“The Q Inspiration concept car takes the traditional sedan architecture to its next stage of evolution. A shift towards smarter, more compact and less intrusive powertrains; we were able to create an alternative form with flowing gestures, more engaging in character and more enriching in experience,” said Karim Habib, Infiniti’s Executive Design Director.
“With its long cabin, balanced proportions and muscular stance, the concept heralds in a new era for Infiniti models.”
The whole thing follows something of a minimalist approach, with a concise and clean interior design. And Infiniti says that, because the car will be electric, there’s more room inside to play with.
Now, to start off with, this car is aimed at the Chinese market, which is why it made this announcement at the Beijing Motor Show last week. So, not only will the new electric car be built in China, but it’ll also be aimed at Chinese buyers.
“We very much had China in mind when designing the Q Inspiration, which shows a very sporty, performance-oriented electric concept, with a much bigger interior space,” said Infiniti Chairman and Global President Roland Krueger
Infiniti also used the who to highlight its Prototype 9 e-roadster, a hand-crafted concept evoking a vintage 1940s grand prix race car that boasts a prototype electric motor and battery from Nissan’s Advanced Powertrain department.
There’s no word yet on when Infiniti’s new electric cars will be released, or how much they’ll cost. But what do you reckon? Would you own an electric car that looked like this?
