Chances are that you haven’t heard of a little carmaker called Jannarelly. But if you live in the UAE, it’s quite an important marque – it’s one of the country’s only homegrown car brands.
It’s headed by Anthony Jannarelly and Frederic Juillot, the former of whom styled the supercars for the W Motors Lykan and Fenyr Supersport. Meaning he’s penned some pretty serious stuff.
The cars bearing his own name, however, are a little different. Juillot and Jannarelly are owners of Caterhams and Donkervoorts, and they love retro-style cars. The idea behind the Jannarelly cars, then, are that they provide simple engineering, strong personalities, and bags of driving fun.
Why are we telling you all about this? Well, at the end of this month, Jannarelly is heading to one of the most well-known hill-climb events on the calendar – Pikes Peak in Colorado. There, a specially developed version of the company’s Design-1 sportscar will feature as the Official Safety Car.
This car’s special because it’s the result of a team-up between Jannarelly and Dubai-based auto company PureDrive Automotive. The car comes with glorious, 1960s-throwback styling, much carbon, and 310 bhp.
And this isn’t just a test drive for the Design-1. You can pick a standard one up for AED 220,500 – and there are still some slots left of the 30 ‘Launch Edition’ models slated for production. Or, if you’re inspired by what you see here, you can pick up the Pikes Peak Edition, which will be more expensive, but is co-developed by PureDrive and is limited to a production run of just 10.
